Corey Hewitt is a junior Percussion Performance Major at Towson University where he studies timpani and percussion with Patrick Roulet and drumset with Frank Russo. His previous teachers include: Barry Dove, John Ramsay, Francisco Mela, and Jeff Reed. As a multi-faceted drummer and percussionist, Corey has performed and recorded with numerous groups in many styles including jazz, rock, funk, gospel, and hip-hop. He has also played in the pit for many musicals, such as Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Oklahoma, Phantom of the Opera, Into The Woods, among others. Recently, he performed the United States premiere of Ruud Wiener’s Go Beyond for percussion quartet, as well as the premiere of the cello quartet arrangement of Astor Piazzola’s Adios Nonino. In the future, Corey plans to pursue advanced degrees in percussion and teach at the college level.
